A visit to the doctor

On Friday I started to feel fluish-not the everyday blocked nose, but the type where you feel achey and full on headache and swollen glands, the type that makes you feel like crawling into bed with hot water bottle and snoozing until you’re better. BUT, I had a wedding on Saturday to shoot and I had to be strong and bring my A game.

I am not the kind of person who runs to the doctor at the first sign on illness, in fact I am the person who hates going to the doctor, and would avoid going at all costs. I’ll happily cart our dogs to the vet as soon as I spot them with the sniffles, drive Dirk when he’s ill & tell him it’ll help him, convince other people they need to go to the doctor, but to drag myself there-I go kicking and screaming.
But on Friday, with the thought of feeling sick while working on Saturday, I put on my big girl panties, and went to the doctor.
I had not been to this doctor before, but since it was late, I couldn’t be picky. Well, I’ll have you know, the moment I walked in that door I felt at ease and that he was going to do his absolute best to help me to get better. He was kind and caring, asking me relevant questions, and all the time genuinely interested in what I had to say. He was sympathetic to the fact that I needed to be better quickly for Saturday, and he immediately knew what to prescribe for me.

He was a peoples person, and someone who genuinely cared for me and my situation. So often in life, professionals see you, hear you and touch you, but they don’t take the time to look at you, listen to you and feel you. This causes your experience of their profession and service, to be a poor one, ending up in being a dissatisfied client. Whether it’s because they just don’t have time, or because they really don’t love their jobs, or care, shows through the way you are dealt with. It’s quite sad to see how many professionals are like this, and just quickly pass you onto the reception to deal with you, and get you out their door.

I guess I started to relate this to my business and how I want my clients to feel when I deal with them, whether it’s over email, the phone, skype, sms or face to face. I want them to feel special and know that I genuinely care about capturing their memories. I want them to trust me, and put their faith in me that I will do my best to capture the moments on their special day. I want them to feel at ease with me, and have an awesome experience the whole way through their wedding journey.

Needless to say, whatever the doctor prescribed for me worked, and I was able to bring my A Game to the wedding and had such a blast with the awesome couple, their friends and family :)

sneak preview of the wedding that will be coming to the blog soon…
