Mentoring a student on photography

I mentored a young high school student a few weeks ago. One of the subjects they take is Life Orientation and they have to shadow a profession that they are interested in. She chose photography, and contacted me as her dad knows my husband. She came on a shoot with me, and learnt the process of a shoot right through to the editing. I taught her a few ins and outs of the business and touched on a few basics of photography. We went out on a shoot, as ‘practice makes perfect’ and I taught her that good lighting is what makes a good photo, I showed her where to place a subject in relation to light and a few poses. I couldn’t help but take some photos of her & then I threw her in the deep end and made her take my camera and photograph me (something I am not fond of being in front of the camera!) I hope I helped inspire her. She is lovely young lady who has a lot of ideas and determination to take her photography to the next level. Good luck Kayleigh! :)   This was teaching her about depth of field. Showing the quality of light and how it can catch & highlight the hair ;) Different quality of light – some harsh shadows on her face. This was a photo that Kayleigh took of me at the end of the shoot.   Using depth of field to create a bit of dimension.
